Aqualand secures Central Barangaroo retail on Scentre Group’s departure

Leading Australian development group, Aqualand, is now the sole developer of the final stage of the Central Barangaroo harbour front precinct, securing the retail investment rights following Scentre Group’s departure from the project.

John Carfi, Chair for Central Barangaroo, Aqualand, said, “Aqualand is delighted to secure the rights for the development of the retail elements of Central Barangaroo and we look forward to sharing our masterplan for the precinct very soon.”

Earlier this year, Aqualand appointed leading Australian architectural firm, SJB, to lead the masterplan design process for Central Barangaroo, and has been working closely with the new NSW Government on refinements to the proposed scheme.

“Our recent engagement with the NSW Government has brought a welcome degree of clarity to the brief for Central Barangaroo and clear expectations on the outcomes the project must deliver for the community. It has been a very constructive and collaborative process,” John said.

The revised Central Barangaroo masterplan, which is currently in development, will showcase an exceptional city-shaping destination for all of Sydney to enjoy.

“We look forward to moving forward with this important project and delivering an exceptional outcome for Sydney. Central Barangaroo has been stuck in process and delay for too long, and we believe that Sydneysiders will want us to get on with it and start construction on this great precinct as soon as possible,” John added.
